Who we are!
Communities In Schools of Greenbrier County (CISGC) believes that keeping youth in school is more than just a school problem. It's a community problem - parents, neighbors, health care providers, business leaders, social workers, counselors, mentors, tutors and volunteers.
CISGC brings resources, volunteers and service providers into schools and trains them to work as one coordinated team.
Helping young people of Greenbrier County stay in school, successfully learn and prepare for life by coordinating the connection of needed community resources in the school setting is the mission of Communities In School of Greenbrier County.
CISGC connects schools with the resources students need most and helps to ensure students receive these services on their school campuses. This means growing numbers of youth in at-risk situations benefit from:
Supportive Guidance and Counseling
Health and Human Services Coordination
Parental and Family Involvement
Pre-Employment/Employment Training and Services
Enrichment Activities and Experiences
Educational Enhancement
CIS believes every child needs and deserves the five basics:
A personal one-on-one relationship with a caring adult
A safe place to learn and grow
A healthy start and a healthy future
A marketable skill to use upon graduation
A chance to give back to their peers and the community
CISGC links educators, employers, governmental agencies, law enforcement and community organizations with at-risk youth to provide support, information, training and access to various programs. This multi-disciplinary approach improves attendance, academic performance and behavior. Most notably, it lowers the school dropout rate.
CISGC utilizes an individual case management approach to work with an identified at-risk population and their families at Eastern and Western Greenbrier Middle Schools.
